I have no idea how to thank you!!! I think the drill-down report should be a good start, though it looks a little tough to crack. Let me play around with it a little and see where I go.

On a side note, I worked on CKM8N_DOCUMENT_REPORT with a developer in one project. It was quite easy to bring the details of CKM3N data by specific Process Category, the developer said. He built a similar report in less than half a day. I just didn't have the wisdom or the patience to jot down the steps to do it. 
A good developer can debug this FM and build the report very quickly, but ours are hard-headed, and it is tough "trying to put unpleasant ideas into some uncompromising heads", as my old professor would say.
