Difference between SOP and Consumption tab

Dear all, good evening.

Please help me to clarify an issue i am having...

We use Sales and Operations Planning in order to derive (forecast) our demand plan (ie sales plan), which is fed to Demand Management in order to create the Planed Independent Requirements. In the next stage, these Planed Independent Requirements are fed to MRP in order for the material procurement proposals to be defined.

On the other hand, in material master, in tab Forecasting --> Additional Data --> Consumption, i can have the consumption history (both planned and unplanned) for all my materials (which are updated based on he movement types set in OMJJ). So, if i have my values set at tab Forecasting --> Additional Data --> Consumption and run a Total Forecast, i would also have my Demand plan, which is directly transfered to MRP and can be used for further calculations...

So, my question is: Why should i use (or when should i use) SOP instead of forecasting based on the values id forecasting tab? Is there any specific reason hat dictates when i should use each? Please note that we are a merchandise company (we sell electrical equipment).

Best regards,

Dr. Nikos Giannopoulos
